Using Aesthetic Response, a Poetic Inquiry to Expand Knowing:The Rx6-Method.

Ein schrittweises Forschungsverfahren der Kunst-basierten Forschung (arts-based research), dass die Rx6-Methode genannt wird, wird vorgestellt. Diese ABR-Methode wird durch expressive Kunsttherapie, heuristische Untersuchung, Anhaftungstheorie und zeitgenössische affektive Neurowissenschaften geprägt und zielt darauf ab, das Verständnis vom „embodied felt sense“ zu vertiefen. Der Rx6-Ansatz basiert auf Ästhetik und einem pragmatischen Vorverständnis, inspiriert von einer interpretativen und konstruktivistischen Tradition. Die Methode ist eine heuristische Bemühung, in der Kunst zur Schaffung von Bedeutung angewendet wird. Zum Zwecke der Veranschaulichung dieser Methode, wurden Kunstwerke verwendet die im Rahmen eines randomisierten Kontrollversuch in einer mixed-method Studie mit Frauen die für Krebs behandelt wurden. „Response Art“, bestehend aus kurzen schriftlichen ästhetischen Reaktionen auf bildliche Artefakte wurde in einer strukturierten Weise angewendet. Die Daten lieferten ein reiches künstlerisches Material, in dem man mit Artefakten auf der Suche nach einer verdichteten Antwort kommunizieren konnte. Die Rx6-Methode beinhaltet sechs Schritte: Beziehung, Resonanz, Antwort, Reflexion und Reaktion auf Ergebnisse. Engagement in ABR kann Klinikern und Forschern ein vertieftes, erweitertes und verkörpertes Verständnis der untersuchten Phänomene bieten. Die Komplexität des Auftretens impliziter Prozesse und des impliziten Wissens, seiner Einschränkungen und Gewinne sowie der theoretischen Perspektiven solcher Unternehmen werden vorgestellt und diskutiert.Une procédure de recherche par étapes de la recherche basée sur les arts (RBA) appelée la méthode Rx6 est présentée. Cette méthode d'RBA est informée par la thérapie en arts creatifs, l'enquête heuristique, la théorie de l'attachement, et la neuroscience affective contemporaine, et vise à approfondir la compréhension du sens ressenti incarné. L'approche Rx6 est basée sur l'esthétique et une pré-compréhension pragmatique inspirée d'une tradition interprétative et d'une tradition constructiviste. La méthode est un effort heuristique où l'art est appliqué à la création de sens. Dans le but d'illustrer cette méthode, on a utilisé des illustrations réalisées dans le cadre d'un essai contrôlé randomisé dans le cadre d'une étude de méthodes mixtes impliquant des femmes traitées pour un cancer gynécologique. L'art réponse consistant en de courtes réponses esthétiques écrites aux artefacts picturaux a été appliqué de manière structurée. Les données ont fourni un riche matériel artistique dans lequel dialoguer avec des artefacts à la recherche d'un énoncé de réponse condensé. La méthode Rx6 comporte six étapes: relier, résonner, répondre, réfléchir et réagir aux résultats. S'engager dans RBA peut offrir aux cliniciens et aux chercheurs une compréhension approfondie, élargie et incarnée des phénomènes étudiés. La complexité du partage des processus implicites et du savoir tacite, ses réserves et gains, ainsi que les perspectives théoriques de ces engagements, sont présentés et discutés.A step-wise research procedure of arts-based research (ABR) called the Rx6 method is presented. This ABR method is informed by expressive arts therapy, heuristic inquiry, attachment theory, and contemporary affective neuroscience, and is aimed at deepening the understanding of embodied felt sense. The Rx6 approach is based in aesthetics and a pragmatic pre-understanding inspired from an interpretive and a constructivist tradition. The method is a heuristic endeavour where art is applied towards the creation of meaning. For the purpose of exemplifying this method, artwork, produced within the context of a randomized control trial as part of a mixed methods study involving women treated for gynaecological cancer, was used. Response art consisting of short written aesthetic responses to pictorial artifacts was applied in a structured manner. The data provided a rich artistic material in which to dialogue with artifacts in search of a condensed response statement. The Rx6 method involves six steps: to relate, resonate, respond, reflect and react to results. Engaging in ABR can offer clinicians and researchers a deepened, expanded, and embodied understanding of the studied phenomena. L'approccio Rx6 si basa sulla pre-comprensione estetica e pragmatica ispirata da una tradizione interpretativa e costruttivista. Il metodo è uno sforzo euristico in cui l’applicazione dell'arte è diretta alla creazione di significati. Al fine di esemplificare questo metodo, sono state utilizzate opere d'arte prodotte nel contesto di un esperimento di controllo randomizzato come parte di metodi misti in uno studio che coinvolge donne trattate per cancro ginecologico. La risposta artistica formata da brevi risposte estetiche scritte ai manufatti pittorici, è stata applicata in modo strutturato. I dati hanno fornito un ricco materiale artistico all’interno del quale dialogare con manufatti in cerca di un’affermazione coincisa di risposta. Il metodo Rx6 prevede sei fasi: relazionarsi, risuonare, rispondere, riflettere e reagire ai risultati. Apart from being inspired from both an interpretive and a constructivist tradition, research methods based in aesthetics can thrive from a clear rationale concerning its perceptual building-blocks in both the intersubjective and intra-psychological domains. This article aims to address the complexity of sharing implicit processes and tacit knowledge in the arts-based inquiry. Layers of this inquiry is reflected along with theoretical perspectives of such undertakings. The article also offers a theoretical rationale for why to add and acknowledge important perceptual and affective building blocks in arts-based research (ABR). Through theories from expressive arts therapy, heuristic inquiry, attachment theory and contemporary affective neuroscience some thoughts on the embodied felt sense as a perceptual hub is shared. Based in contemporary attachment theory and psychotherapy research, a rationale is given for why engaging in ABR can offer clinicians and researchers a deepened understanding of the studied phenomena. Our undertakings are presented in part 1 of these two articles. From this embodied perspective, the described arts-based inquiry can be considered as a privileged way to nuance and enlarge understanding in both the intersubjective and intra-psychological domain, which could be particularly helpful to ABR researchers who are informed by a psychodynamic perspective.Metodi di ricerca basati sull’estetica possono, oltre che essere ispirati da tradizioni sia interpretative che costruttiviste, prosperare da un fondamento logico riguardante i loro elementi di costruzione percettiva in entrambi i domini intersoggettivi e intrapsicologici. La complessità di condividere processi impliciti e tacita conoscenza nell’indagine basata sull’arte, si riflette lungo i punti di vista teorici di tali imprese. Una motivazione teorica è stata data sul perché aggiungere e riconoscere importanti elementi di costruzione percettiva e affettiva nella ricerca basata sull’arte (ABR). Attraverso le teorie dell’arteterapia espressiva, l’indagine euristica, la Teoria dell’Attaccamento e le neuroscienze affettive, vengono condivise alcune opinioni sulla sensazione significativa incorporata come centro percettivo. Basato sulla Teoria dell’Attaccamento contemporanea e la ricerca in psicoterapia, un fondamento logico è dato sul perché investire in ABR può offrire a clinici e ricercatori una comprensione più profonda dei fenomeni studiati. La complexité du partage des processus implicites et des connaissances tacites dans l'enquête basée sur les arts se reflète ainsi que les perspectives théoriques de ces entreprises. Une justification théorique de la raison pour laquelle il faut ajouter et reconnaître les principaux éléments perceptifs et affectifs de la recherche base sur les arts (RBA) est donnée. À travers les théories de la thérapie des arts expressifs, de l'investigation heuristique, de la théorie de l'attachement et de la neuroscience affective contemporaine, certaines réflexions sur le sentiment ressenti incarné comme centre de perception sont partagées. Basé sur la théorie de l'attachement contemporaine et la recherche en psychothérapie, une justification est donnée pour expliquer pourquoi l'engagement dans RBA peut offrir aux cliniciens et aux chercheurs une compréhension approfondie des phénomènes étudiés. Nos engagements sont présentés dans la première partie de ces deux articles. Auf zeitgenössischer Bindungstheorie und Psychotherapie Forschung basierend, wird eine Begründung gegeben, warum das Engagement in ABR Klinikern und Forschern ein vertieftes Verständnis der untersuchten Phänomene bieten kann. Unsere Vorhaben sind in Teil 1 dieser beiden Artikel vorgestellt.
